The Town Board met
and appointed local businessman, police officer and
community volunteer Robert Latimer to complete the
unexpired term of Supervisor-elect Sue
Crane. Among other comments, the meeting featured
one residents' equating the Town Board's decision to
fill this vacancy to that of the horrible
assassination of Pakistan's former Prime Minister.
The Board acted appropriately, appointed a smart and
decent individual and it is time to move on.
As was mentioned by a few attendees: the
manufactured outrage was less about Latimer and more
about the process.
Latimer said it best: There is no room for us
against them, it is time to do what is best for Red
Hook. Good for him. Good for Red Hook. ¶
