Moving Forward
Sue Crane lays out a
logical
path for Red Hook
Supervisor-elect Sue Crane did
the only thing she could in order to ensure progress for the
Town of Red Hook. In stepping down from her Town Board
seat she has allowed the current Town Board to consider a
successful businessperson to complete her term.
Apparently this action has
angered the Red Hook Democratic Committee and their supporters.
Why? Because they wish to dictate who should complete Sue
Crane's term. Taking the position that they are now "in
control" they don't think the election of 2005 should mean
anything and only those who voted in 2007 should have a say.
Sue Crane has had a successful
tenure because she knows when it's necessary to build consensus, when it's
necessary to compromise and when it's necessary to stand on
principle. We think she is standing on firm ground this time.
The voters in 2005 selected Sue Crane and Jim Ross (by margins
equal to the 2007 win for Democrats) to represent us for four
years. Since Sue is now Supervisor we believe the individual
selected to complete her term should reflect her values. There
is a reason we don't elect all four board members at the same
time. This staggered election approach allows for continuity
and diversity of thought. The election of two months ago has no
bearing on the election of two years ago.
