A Convenient
Omission
"an inconvenient
truth"
Red Hook Concerns is at it again. Their web
site has become a tool to level vicious attacks
against local Republicans. Their latest "press,"
attacks the Red Hook Republican Committee for
missing a mandatory NYS Board of Elections financial
disclosure filing date. The only problem? They
didn't.
Once again, Red Hook
Concerns shows no concern for the truth or
the lives they disrupt. The NYS Board of Elections
web site clearly indicates that the Red Hook
Republican Committee has filed a "No Activity"
report for January 2008. Unlike, RHC, the Bugle
provides you the direct link:

The irony goes well
beyond this convenient omission. Red Hook Concerns
engaged in an aggressive negative campaign against
the Red Hook Republicans in the 2005 election, never
disclosing their expenses as required by NYS
Election Law. Red Hook Concerns used their
considerable resources to buy newspaper
advertisements and mail literature attacking
Republicans.
Interestingly, RHC
neglects to mention that while the Red Hook
Democratic and Republican Committees did meet their
legal obligation to file a January 2008 disclosure
statement, Democratic Councilmembers Harry Colgan
and Micki Strawinski did not.

Do we suggest an ethical
lapse? Would we assert total disregard for the
law? No, we would not. We chalk this one up to
human error or forgetfulness. We are sure they
meant no harm. We cannot say the same for Red Hook
Concerns.
Ours is a good
community. Our public officials are good people.
Of all the issues that "concern" us the most, the
venomous way in which Red Hook Concerns attacks our
community ranks at the top. ¶
